Computer Processors

A processor is an electronic circuit that can run computer programs. Computer hardware consists of various components connect to microprocessors, specifically, the computer's central processing unit (CPU), the electronic circuit that control the process of computer. The input and output hardware interaction is controlled by software called Basic Input Output System software (BIOS). A microprocessor containing all of the functions of a central processing unit (CPU) on a single integrated circuit (IC). Computer processors were constructed out of small and medium-scale IC's which contains hundred transistors. Therefore, one or more microprocessor as processing element from the smallest devices to the largest mainframes and supercomputers. The operation of processors is to execute a sequence of stored instructions called a program. A program is stored in a storage device such as floppy disk, hard disk, and CD-ROM drive. The program is working from the main memory of the computer, which is known as (RAM) random access memory.

The function of a CPU is same as calculator, only much more complex and powerful. So, there are four steps that all CPUs use in their operation that is fetch, decode, execute, and write back. The type of the processor can be a very important consideration for users who are building a computer. Today, mostly used processor is Intel.
